Volunteer Program

Effective Immediately - May 1, 2023 - Volunteers & Friends of Saffyre Sanctuary

Regrettably, for a variety of reasons, we are no longer offering volunteer orientation training. We sincerely had hoped to grow the program into a community of fellowship for horse oriented people, with open minds and generous hearts, to learn and share experiences together.

Unfortunately, the current situation has not panned out to fit that scenario.

One of the ongoing issues has been volunteer retention. It has become increasingly difficult to sustain a volunteer program when we are repeatedly training new people who do not return, or commit to any further volunteer appointments to spend time with us. We are greatly appreciative of your time to come and learn, and it has been truly enjoyable to watch your expertise grow, contributing whenever you can. We absolutely understand that circumstances come up, schedules change, and it is sometimes difficult to make a committed time to volunteer.

Moving forward, we are directing our efforts towards a different pathway with much needed financial results. This direction will enable us to further our long-term goals and increase our revenue. You may not be aware, but we do have an AIRBNB immersive experience.

Our "Play with Rescued Horses" session is available on the AIRBNB website.  As we shift towards this goal, we will continue to allow people to share our perspective on horses, including up close and personal time with them, thinking like a horse, plus elevating your horse etiquette and knowledge.

PLEASE NOTE - If you previously attended a Volunteer Orientation and you are already "TRAINED", and coming regularly, (we are very appreciative), we will always welcome and encourage you to come help, and be with our horses. We are not moving or leaving you. If your heart is calling you to visit and spend some time with our horses, the AIRBNB Experience, could be a great option. Plus, the added bonus is the proceeds from our AIRBNB Experience, goes directly to assist with the care and well-being for the Saffyre Sanctuary Program Horses. If we see a growing number of people requesting the volunteer orientation, those who know they have the time, dedication, and commitment required for our horses, we may open up the orientation training program again.

Thank you so much again for your valuable time, we greatly appreciate your concern, and (hopefully) look forward to seeing you,

in a different way... AIRBNB - why not?

Saffyre Sanctuary Always Has a Need for Volunteers!

Whether you are a novice and want to learn about horses from the ground up, or an experienced horse person that wants to share your time and expertise, we can always use your help!  Cleaning, grooming, and positive reinforcement groundwork is what we do most, but we also make time for play and, you might receive a special healing or message from some of our resident horses!

If you have always wanted a horse for yourself, but never had the people or the place to let you learn, well here is your opportunity!  You will learn first hand about the best holistic care, feeding, and handling of horses, some with very special needs. Volunteering for a horse rescue is something that comes from the heart.  You must have a love and passion for horses, since you may not realize how much time and dedication this requires.  As you work with these wonderful animals, you will be surprised how much you learn about yourself.  Being around horses is the best therapy in the world!

We are happy to help students earn school credits and all ages are welcome.  We encourage the parents of minors to observe or participate for at least a day with their children so that they can feel comfortable and share their experiences with them.  A signed volunteer release form and your own medical insurance are required.

If you have not volunteered with us before, you must attend a volunteer orientation and training day

prior to scheduling a regular volunteer day.
